These pieces for piano were written during the composer’s intensive
investigation of the 12-tone technique of Schoenberg, Berg and Webern. Höller describes his short piano pieces as ‘the first valid results of my involvement with the second Viennese School’. These five serial pieces are all based on the same 12-tone row, its inversion, retrograde form and retrograde inversion.
